(BEIJING, August 18) -- With the 2008 Olympic Games less than one year away, the China Agricultural University (CAU) Gymnasium was delivered to wrestling's international governing body (FILA) at a symbolic key hand-over ceremony Saturday morning.
Located on the eastern campus of CAU, the Olympic wrestling venue is, by far, the first completed venue that is based on a school campus.
The complex spans an area of nearly 24,000 square meters and can seat up to 8,500 people.
The venue is now available for the impending 2007 Junior World Wrestling Championship slated from 21 to 26 August 2007. It will also play host of the volleyball seating competition during the Beijing Paralympic Games, which will be held from 6 to 18 September 2008.
After the 2008 Games, the venue will serve as a multi-functional facility fully accessible to the university students and staff, as well as the residents in the neighborhood. |
