Swedish defends women's 48kg freestyle title

Sofia Mattsson of Sweden consolidated her hegemony of the the women's 48kg freestyle after beating Japanese Fuyuko Mimura in the final of the event at the "Good Luck Beijing" 2007 Junior World Wrestling Championships today.

Sofia Mattsson won the event at the last junior world championships while the Japanese finished third.

In the first period, the Swedish erupted to whitewash her Japanese counterpart 5-0. Mimura fought more aggresive in the second period but was reluctant to score in two minutes.Sofia Mattsson got the attacking initiative after the coin tossing and never let up to defend the title.

In the bronze medal match, China's Ou Yan faced Sarianne Savola of Finland, who came out of the revival match.

Ou, plagued by her leg injury, seized a leg holding to score 2 points wining the first period. But the Finn evened the scores after the second with the same tactic.

In the third period, Ou gained a decisive point by pushing Savola out of the floor and grabbed the bronze.

The other bronze medal went to Alyssa Lampe of the United States.
