(BEIJING, July 12) -- BOCOG President Liu Qi urged earnest efforts to ensure the success of the "Good Luck Beijing" sports events in the next two months as they constitute "the first battle" in the series of test events extending into 2008.

"The 16 events to be held in August and September are of great importance to other test events and the 2008 Olympic Games," he told a mobilization meeting in Beijing on Thursday.

He hoped that the organizers would integrate resources, carry forward the spirit of teamwork and unity, enhance organization, services and logistics, and pay special attention to transport and media services as well as security and training.

Liu laid stress on the organization of such sports events as sailing, beach volleyball, canoe-slalom, road cycling, baseball and archery.

The meeting was chaired by Wang Qishan, Beijing mayor and BOCOG executive president. Beijing Vice-Mayor and BOCOG Executive Vice-President Liu Jingmin laid out the task for the forthcoming events.
